Karoo National Park

Just 12 minutes from Hartshuijs

Only 17 km from Hartshuijs Guest House, the Karoo National Park is one of the region’s greatest treasures. It’s the perfect spot to experience the wide-open spaces, unique wildlife, and quiet stillness that make the Karoo so unforgettable. Whether you're in the mood for a relaxed drive, a bit of hiking, or simply some time in nature, the park has something for everyone.

The park is home to a wide range of wildlife, including black rhino, Cape mountain zebra, kudu, and other antelope species. Visitors can enjoy self-drive safaris at their own pace or book a guided game drive through SANParks for a more in-depth experience. Night drives are also available and offer a completely different way to experience the Karoo—under its famously star-filled skies.

For those who enjoy walking, the park features several well-maintained hiking trails suitable for different fitness levels. Shorter routes like the Bossie Trail offer a gentle introduction to the area's flora and geology, while longer trails reward you with breathtaking views and peaceful solitude. Bird enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy, as the park is home to over 200 bird species, with dedicated hides for quiet observation.
